As we all must know by now, the next Doctor on Doctor Who will be a woman. (Yaaas.) This is coinciding with Moffat finally leaving. I always said I'd give Who another go once he's gone, and I am going to be true to my word and see if the new showrunner's any good!

In order to ease myself back into it, I thought I'd get to know the new Doctor's actress a little. She's done lots of stuff but Broadchurch was on my netflix so it was easiest to watch and I'd heard good things about it, so I decided to watch. And OMG am I glad I did. I LOVED IT!!! I mean, new Doctor aside, I really loved the show. (I mostly forgot that she was the reason I started watching the show after about 2 episodes.) I would say it's basically a Brit version of The Killing, which I adored. One case/story over a long period (multiple seasons), lady cop that I LOVE*, unlikely partnership that scratches my itches in all the right ways.. YES GOOD THANKS.

I'm really sad they only did 3 series of Broadchurch. :((((( And Hardy/Miller is my ship flavor of the moment now.

*so my love for Ellie Miller is just like, okay, she's so optimistic and wants to save the world and she endures unimaginable pain, such a specific kind that very few people have to go through (trying not to spoil here), but she comes out the other side and she's STILL optimistic and STILL upbeat and STILL so empathetic and that's her best feature THAT'S what helps her solve crimes THAT'S what makes her so crucial to Hardy, so irreplacable, and no she's not perfect by any means, but her humanity is what gives her the edge and helps her see the things he misses - that and her CRAZY CRIMESOLVING WALLS (my favorite) - that helps her connect to victims she fights for, and she doesn't let Hardy's gruffness get to her, she's just like oh shut up, she's amazingly strong to be there for the best friend that hates her, and I just???? LOVE??? HER?????!!!!! Here's a convenient list of Miller's 10 best moments ahahha my laughter devolves into sobbing because I love her so much.

HERE HAVE A RANDOM PICSPAM I MADE b/c I love Hardy and Miller so muh-huh-huch

sense 8. will at least try 2nd season. i can def see why it got cancelled tho. way too fucking slow and while the actors have improved line delivery there are still problems right up til the 12th episode. i cant understand how they just let some of this thru to be honest. and i am cranky at how badly jonas is teaching will who the sensates are and what they can do. he just talks trash philosophy and alludes to shit instead of dropping concise facts and figures about what the fuck is going on.

Rest In Peace, John Heard

John Heard has passed away at the age of 72. May he rest in peace. He was found dead in his hotel room yesterday, two days after having minor back surgery. He might be most well known for the role of Peter McAllister (Kevin’s father) in the first two Home Alone films. I also vaguely remember him from Cat People (1982).

even now, with everything i know about memory—how easily it can be manipulated, how the act of recollection changes the memory itself—there is still a part of me that feels betrayed by my childhood self. and i wonder if the reason that i have no memories of my early years is because i had to erase them in order to participate in the lie of my parentage. i helped to deceive myself.

Deborah Watling has passed away, at the age of 69, following a battle with lung cancer. May she rest in peace. She played the role of Victoria Waterfield, companion to the Second Doctor, on Doctor Who. Unfortunately, most of her episodes were destroyed.

The Tomb of the Cybermen and The Enemy of the World managed to survive from her tenure on the series, along with the second episode of the serial The Evil of the Daleks.

Rest In Peace, Trevor Baxter

Trevor Baxter has passed away at the age of 84. May he rest in peace. For Doctor Who fans, he played Professor George Litefoot in the episode The Talons of Weng-Chiang. He reprised the role for Big Finish Productions, in Doctor Who: The Companion Chronicles: The Mahogany Murderers, and a series called Jago & Litefoot.

Having looked through his filmography, I see that he was in two episodes of Mystery And Imagination*--The Body Snatcher and Feet Foremost; I believe those are in the portion that are sadly lost. He was also in Jack The Ripper (1988) in the role of Lanyon--that one also starred Michael Caine, Lysette Anthony (Angelique from Dark Shadows 1991), and Susan George (Lucy in Dracula 1968). I have always meant to watch that one, so I’ll track it down. I think I spotted it at DailyMotion earlier, divided into parts.

*Come to think of it, that's two from Mystery And Imagination that have died in the last two months. Peter Sallis was the other one.

to run on our tvs an alternate history in which the confederates win the war and black folk are still enslaved up until the present day. in trumpian white nationalism rising america. where police are murdering black folk with impunity and our attorney general is rolling back what little justice reform has been passed and the prisons, full of mostly black folk are boiling hot due to climate change, caused by white folks greed. and an entire city of mostly black folk is out of water and cacthing diseases due to white folks greed. and i could go on and on and on.

When will white folks lose power over us? I would really love to be able to ignore them? That would be paradise, to be able to focus on other things because white folks have lost all power over us.

Import In Progress

I am in the process of importing my older fanfic to Ao3. A large portion of it is probably Doctor Who, from the Tenth Doctor days. So if you suddenly notice a new story* from me, it's not new. It's so very, very old and fluff more than anything in most cases. Looking back now, quite a few are not that great, but they're going up for the sake of completion.

*There were two occasions as I started the import where it accidentally made it post to today's date, but it was eventually fixed. I learned that trying to import from Teaspoon does that for whatever reason, while importing from Dreamwidth does not, and gives the original date without me needing to change it.

and am already pissed. the white saviour plotline with will is some white fuckery. the lines those mfs gave that black nurse and what looks like an afro latino cop when they were interacting with a black child that was MAYBE thirteen and gunshot? when cops be shooting black folk in real life like they have a quota on our asses? no ma'am. that is some white supremacy storytelling.

also the dialogue is kinda stiff and overly wordy, several actors had trouble naturally saying their lines. and the pacing is too slow.

look. can we get rid of the idea of diversity in which its vast majority of whites and one of each for everyone else? because its utterly irritating to have to hold your breath and worry about the characterization of the one main POC character that shares your race while white folks can pick and choose freely over their myriad main character options.

and can we have more interracial lgbt couples that DO NOT have a white person as a part of the partnership? and can we have more same race lgbt couples that aint white? i promise you poc same race same sex couples will not destroy the world as we know it, gay creatives; pls stop this shit.

Yeah for the trans actress. yeah for the cinematography. yeah for the idea itself, its pretty interesting. yeah for the characterization of the sensates, they look like interesting people. I am going to see how far i can make thru the series and hopefully even if i have to drop out due to racist and or boring storytelling i might at least be able to look the fanfic and see if i can entertain myself there.

And then I remembered…

I suddenly remembered that long ago, for whatever reason, I had made two other Photobucket accounts (one in 2004 and one in 2005, according to the registration dating; they looked to be empty, so I had deleted stuff years ago in there). I vaguely remembered the ancient e-mail addresses for them, but not the usernames. Using the former, I was able to get the latter. So now, they are deleted, too.

And with that, I have cut ties with Photobucket completely.
